Allah says in the Holy Quran (2:186):“When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me.”

Allah says in Chapter 40, verse 60 of the Quran: “And your Lord says, Call on Me; I will answer your (prayer). But those who are too arrogant to worship Me will surely find themselves in Hell, in humiliation.”

The Prophet (SAW) said: “The most excellent worship is Dua.” (Sahih Al-Jami)

The Prophet (SAW) said: “A slave becomes nearest to his Lord when he is in prostration. So increase supplications in prostrations.” (Sahih Muslim).

We should supplicate to Allah at all times, not only when we are in difficulty. The Prophet (SAW) said: “Whosoever desires that Allah answers his Duas in unfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful Dua in days of ease and comfort.”

There are supplications for specific situations, or needs as well. For example, there are duas for healing when we or a loved one falls sick, duas for increase in knowledge, duas for forgiveness, duas for guidance, duas to save us from distress, duas for sustenance, duas for patience, duas for protection from hellfire, duas for protection from all kinds of calamities,duas for general well-bieng and many, many more.
